The Wreck of the Hesperus

by BORT

Bucky BORT are back with a new wave of barn-burnt grit, powerhouse prog, and esoteric dirge. An aurally euphoric output, crushing on all accounts.
Tom's Reviews
Tom's Reviews thumbnail
Tom's Reviews Bort is a killer band!! I dig the way they write riffs, and the vocals have a very cool tone and approach. I'm pretty sure that I heard a theremin in New Ideal, which is an instrument that I find intriguing. Favorite track: New Ideal.
Saffron Robe

Saffron Robe “The Unblinking Eye” is one of the best purchases I have made on Bandcamp and an album I return to again and again. This release is denser and a much more involved listen, but also quite catchy!

Now I can hear it in the trees again Hypnotic leaves bely the hurricane Follow the distant crash of waves ashore The standard bearer I've been looking for Four hundred fathoms deep the shadow dies Four hundred more is where her kingdom lies Between the fissures from whence acid seeps In shattered wrecks my mournful lover sleeps The lilting chorus of my offering A worthy tribute of the world I bring Her ageless eyes begin to fulminate In benthic majesty she resonates

I remember last September was your third farewell That rotting smell Left your notebook by the coathook in the cheap motel Auto-da-fe misspelled I'm no soothsayer but you say her excuses don't gel The warning bell Sounds its caution now more often as the alibis swell Growing dark, oh well I'm breaking open at the bone I'm straying far from what I know Your haunting memory fades away At least I pray for this now Drowning below Shaded shallows left unhallowed by a faltering sun My world undone Endless rest and empty tests I guess I failed just one Abrogation Of your face's holy places, visions, traces, begun The water runs Smothering heartaches, tearing parts of me away one by one Nothing left, it's done I'm breaking open at the bone I'm straying far from what I know Your haunting memory fades away At least I pray for this now Drowning below Go, take away, everything, it's okay If I grow, up to be, misery, empty just like You, bird of prey, broken wing, red Sunday, Let it grow, over me, sight unseen, frozen fever Dream, getaway, stolen ring, shades of grey, Fading glow, history, still can't see, doused in gaso- Lean, over me, worshipping, endless sea, Undertow, drowning me, you'd agree, with my silent Scream, go away, poison sting, dead bouquet, never know Leave me be, lost at sea, just can't let you Go, take away, everything, it's okay If I grow, up to be, misery, empty just like You, bird of prey, broken wing, red Sunday, Let it grow, over me, sight unseen, frozen fever

New Ideal 06:13
Tell me again what's real, can you see the surface? Speak, breathe Dwelling in the surreal, take first steps in earnest See, feel Sell me a new ideal, give me truer purpose Taste, wake Spell me the death of truth, I’m so sick of secrets Rise, lie Help me recall my youth, when all nights were dreamless Sleep, free Growing in the obtuse, and ignite the furnace Seem, dream Washing away the proof, don’t you know it’s worthless Hide, die Am I awake? Was it just a dream? Lost in the haze, I can’t see anymore Don’t call it fate, It bends and it breaks Twisted and ashamed, I can’t feel anymore Consciously render the few Contamination ensued Faction is reborn anew Am I awake? Was it just a dream? Lost in the haze, I can’t see anymore Don’t call it fate, It bends and it breaks Twisted and ashamed, I can’t feel anymore Please don’t obstruct the lantern's view Leading them ashore Here to return the earth back to What it was before

Dawn of Day 06:20
My shadow followed me down the hill today Obsessive fantasy reality slip away The hollow place inside growing patiently Waiting til the day that I can't take another poison dream When you see the light at the edge of the trees Run to the cliffs and fly away Dive to the ocean down to the deep View the world from underneath Ten burning tapestries lining twisted halls Depicting prophecies predicting my own downfall My demons swallowed me up again today Storm-cloud from deadened sea abandoning a castaway When you see the light at the edge of the trees Run to the cliffs and fly away Dive to the ocean down to the deep View the world from underneath Releasing hold Could not let go Must carry on As good as gone Far from the edge is where we are My restless sea a crumbling heart Beneath the self imploding star Relinquishing control to harm Eternal spiralling out of the fold Heartbeats are quickening enlaced in gold When you see the light at the edge of the trees Run to the cliffs and fly away Dive to the ocean, down to the deep View the world from underneath

Black Breath 07:02
I feel the hours start to fold in my hand Numb and completely vulnerable to no end Your eyes see what they want Your mind lies about those whom you love Idols you're harvesting, pilfered from deities Creeping tombs of divine Consumed in breathing, tainted humility Feeding from the inside Endlessly straining to see reality Hazy, shrouded in flies All thoughts are fading from broken memory Leaving you further behind I feel the hours start to fold in my hand Numb and completely vulnerable to no end Your eyes see what they want Your mind lies about those whom you love Thoughtlessly praising her royal majesty Craving to bathe in the light Constantly pleading unyielding apathy Weaving your new disguise I feel the hours start to fold in my hand Numb and completely vulnerable to no end Your eyes see what they want Your mind lies about those whom you love The unfaltering decay flowing free Black breath blankets the sky Unrelenting ray of night What you call principle, I can't abide Something so cynical, dripping with pride If I'm so despicable, how come I'm right? Blinding red, bleeding white You're the original terrible truth Pain that no chemical liquor can soothe Wasted youth, living proof I'm your unstoppable creeping collapse Systemic failure enveloped in wax Heartbreak in black Thunder cracks Every last broken glass that remains

Norman's Woe 11:43
Shards of moonlight are falling Rains quench the ground Goddess dreamlike is calling Scarred burial mound Stolen lives coat her fingers Glyphs as goodbyes Every bleach-soaked stain lingers Cenotaphs in the sky Lay me down in the mud Flesh and bone disease Broken and unseen And if I should never wake A fossilized mistake Banished to a place Devoid of grace and sanctity Splintered sun dimly dawning Painting black figurines Feeding mad hellmouth yawning Death mask cast in chlorine Dead flowers in the garden Clouds of ash drift by History is forgotten Never asking why Lay me down in the mud Flesh and bone disease Broken and unseen And if I should never wake A fossilized mistake Banished to a place Devoid of grace and sanctity Peril flows through my hand Unconfined, bleeding sky Entombed in my own head Calcified in my mind All is lost in the end Pulses bind, intertwined Towers fall, pierce the sand Undermined, breaking time All is lost in the end Pulses bind, intertwined Towers fall, pierce the sand Undermined, breaking time
